What is Coconut Coir?

Rehydrating Coconut Coir Bricks
Coconut coir is often sold in compressed blocks for several practical reasons, including space efficiency, ease of handling, and extended shelf life. Before using coconut coir, you will need to rehydrate and expand the block to make it usable as a growing medium
1. Remove any packaging from the brick and place it into a bucket. Ensure that the bucket is large enough to accommodate the fully expanded brick. This can be many times its compacted size! For example, a 650g brick will expand to fill approximately 10 litres.
2. Add lukewarm water to the bucket, ensuring the brick is covered as much as possible. A 650g brick will require approximately 3 litres.
3. Leave for 10 – 20 minutes to allow all the water to be absorbed.
4. Break up and aerate the coir. If you find any dry pieces add a little more water.
